The production-spec off-road supercar gets a raft of exterior modifications to tackle the dirt.

Lamborghini has confirmed that the Huracan Sterrato supercar is nearing production via an official teaser. First previewed as a concept back in 2019, the Sterrato (Italian for ‘dirt road’) is a more rugged, off-road focused version of the standard Huracan EVO.

True to the concept version, the camouflaged, pre-production Huracan Sterrato gets dual LED auxilliary lights on the front bumper. Towards the sides, the changes are quite significant as the Sterrato features bolt-on plastic cladding on the front and rear fenders and the side skirts. These are complemented by the roof rails, slightly redesigned side intakes, a new diffuser and a large roof-mounted scoop to allow for extra cooling of the engine.

It is also expected that the Huracan Sterrato will feature a front and rear skid plate along with a composite panel from the concept for better underbody protection. Other changes for the Sterrato include the tweaked suspension for a raised ride height and chunky tyres on the 20-inch alloy wheels.

Even though the Italian supercar maker is yet to reveal the powertrain details, the teaser implies that the Huracan Sterrato will likely be powered by the same 640hp, 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine from the Huracan EVO that’s mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. Being their first off-road focussed two-door supercar, the Sterrato will feature the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) onboard drive management system, previously seen on the concept version that will be updated to provide increased torque to the rear wheels for better handling in the dirt.

Expected to arrive in October 2022, it is currently unclear if the Huracan Sterrato will be a limited series production run like the Sián FKP 37. The brand has also spoken about its plans to electrify its model line-up from 2023, confirming that the successor of the Aventador Ultimae LP780-4, the next-gen Huracan, and the Urus facelift will feature a hybrid powertrain.
